2021: Season of change
When we announced last year as our “Season of Bravery”—well before the pandemic hit—we had no idea how fitting it would turn out to be. Though it wasn’t what any of us expected, 2020 proved to be a year of prolific growth and incredible opportunity for Spring, with our Digital Performance Project, feature films, and socially-distanced camps and classes contributing to an amazing expansion and strengthening of our Spring Theatre Family.
And now that we’re in a new year, we are excited to announce our upcoming season--The Spring Theatre 2021 Season of Change!
Now more than ever, it is important to embrace change and exhibit flexibility in life, and we hope to celebrate and explore the ever-shifting world we live in with a full line-up of experiences for the community which center on the themes of discovery, growth, overcoming and adapting!
Oh—and, we’ve prepared a healthy log of backup plans. Just in case things, you know… Change.
Our season will open with collaborative opportunities for our actors to celebrate performance in-person with an exclusive Acting Club that will hone thespian sensibilities and allow a learning environment from one another in a group setting. As soon as we have enough interest, we will also be starting our first-ever Improv Troupe, which will offer a weekly excuse to step outside of the structure of everyday life and laugh together while working on on-the-fly comedy technique.
Our first camp production of the summer will be the sensational SEUSSICAL! This colorful musical springs to life right from the pages of the wonderful Dr. Seuss, and features a cast of zany characters, earworm songs, and a heartwarming message about understanding, friendship and perspective.
After that, we will be turning up the heat with the award-winning musical HAIRSPRAY, a show proudly celebrating diversity, progress and self-love; this production is sure to bring the house down with a sizzling display of high-energy music and dance dripping with 1960s flair.
In the fall, we are thrilled to be mounting a World-Premiere play, Gil and the Wild One —a story told through the eyes and minds of two 11-year-old boys as they work to maintain the adventure and playfulness of youth in the face of life-threatening illness.
And finally, we will close the season with our yearly tradition of an original holiday touring production geared towards bringing love and joy to the retirement communities of the Triad and beyond.
We are incredibly excited about our production season, but the fun doesn’t stop there—we have planned a slew of exciting off-stage opportunities scattered throughout the year as well, such as our upcoming online 24-Hour Pajama Party, a Masquerade Murder Mystery, and more!
We understand that change can be uncomfortable. After all society runs on routine! But it’s true what they say—necessity is the mother of invention. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned from 2020, it’s that if, rather than fight and resist, we make the choice
to embrace change, and use displacement as an opportunity for growth and forward motion, we can create things—together, as a community—that we’d never have thought possible in our wildest dreams.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being a part of our Spring Theatre Family. We infinitely appreciate your continued love and support, and we can’t wait to create new memories with you this year during the 2021 Season of Change!
